cette époque du déchirement d'un peuple n'est pas faite pour la poésie et ce genre de choses : quand on s'apprête à écrire c'est comme si on écrivait sur l'autre face d'un faire-part de deuil voilà pourquoi mes poèmes sont pleins d'amertume (quoi de changé au fond?) et surtout si rares

τούτη η εποχή του εμφυλίου σπαραγμού δεν είναι εποχή για ποίηση κι' άλλα παρόμοια : σαν πάει κάτι να γραφή είναι ως αν να γράφονταν από την άλλη μεριά αγγελτηρίων θανάτου γι' αυτό και τα ποιήματά μου είν' τόσο πικραμένα (και πότε - άλλωστε - δεν είσαν;) κι' είναι - προ πάντων - και τόσο λίγα

this age of civil strife is no age for poetry and such like: when something is about to be written it's as if it were being written on the other side of death announcements which is why my poems are so bitter (and when - in any case - were they not?) and are - above all - also so few
